Rec 3: Genesis

Synopsis: Set at the same time as the events of Rec 1, but miles away, we follow a young couple  on their wedding day.   I don’t want to give too much away suffice to say things don’t go according to plan when we realise one of the guests is “infected” and a whole heap of flesh-eating zombie fun ensues.

What can I say? The doll-faced heroine is suitably tough, and the wedding scenario gives the director plenty of opportunities for a nice high body count.  It doesn’t really feel like Rec 1 or 2 because a fair chunk of this one is shot cinematically rather than on a shaky han-held camera, but I don’t think it really loses anything because of that.  If anything, I prefer a steady camera I’m prone to motion sickness.

Final thoughts: I really enjoyed this as a standalone zombie film, and as part of the Rec series.  Maybe some Rec fans won’t like it, but if you’re a horror fan, it’s definitely worth 80 minutes of your life.

Score: 8/10
