No One Lives

In case the title wasn’t enough of a giveaway, I’ll start by confirming that yes, this is a horror film. It opens on a girl running through the woods, which as any horror fan will know, is a staple of the genre. From here on in though, No One Lives is a bit different. In fact, if you plan to watch it I recommend you don’t read up on it or watch the trailer as you’ll enjoy it more.

If you do want to carry on reading I’ll try not to give too much away… Luke Evans and Laura Ramsey play a couple driving across country to relocate, when they are unfortunate enough to bump into a gang of thieves who take a shine to them. The gang turns out to be totally inept and carnage basically ensues for all involved. Hurrah!

Evans is like a grown up James McAvoy, but with charisma, and is great fun throughout. Adelaide Clemens reminds me of a young Michelle Williams and I relished her steely faced determination – it’s always good to see a strong female character who doesn’t do the classic running-up-the-stairs-when-she-should-be-getting-the-fuck-out-of-there routine.

No One Lives is bloody, gruesome and trashy with some seriously bad acting in places but its great fun and quite original, with one of the best baddies I’ve seen in a long time. Recommended.
