So Long at the Fair

This 1950 film sees a brother and sister, played by Jean Simmons, visit the 1986 World’s Fair in Paris on holiday. Their trip starts off well but the morning after their arrival, the brother goes missing. Even more than that, the room he slept in is missing, too… Simmons seeks help from the hotel staff who swear blind that she checked in on her own, and they’ve never seen her brother. Hmm, some seriously plot thickenage…

Lucky for her, the very dishy Dirk Borgade (yes, that’s right, I said dishy) saw them arrive together and can vouch for her sanity. He even sets about helping her unravel the mystery.

Looking baffled: wait until you find out what's been going on!

Looking baffled: wait until you find out what’s been going on!

Sadly, the mystery turns out to be TOTALLY RIDICULOUS, but the actors, performances and costumes make up for it. This is a crazy little film that is worth a look if you like classic films with old school stars.

Score: 7/10
